Distance from a position

Schematic lat/long grid (not a chart). Tap a pin to jump to its card. Distances are great-circle NM from the position above; times and rings are still air at the diversion TAS (no wind). “Alternates” draws the rings of the airports shown by the filter below.

Badge = availability at the time chosen above, as interpreted from the published hours. It is not a weather or NOTAM check.

South Atlantic corridor — EUR/SAM reference

Airspace: RVSM / RNP10 between FL290–FL410 · HF radio required (VHF alone is not enough); CPDLC/ADS-C a bonus, not compulsory · DCT routing ok above FL245.

SLOP here differs from the NAT: centre, 1 NM or 2 NM right.

    Comms by FIR:

    • SBAO Atlantico — CPDLC primary and works well; HF secondary.
    • GOOO Dakar — hard to raise on HF or CPDLC; request step climbs / deviations with SBAO or GVSC instead.
    • GVSC Sal — HF/VHF primary; CPDLC primary only on UN741.
    • SBRE Recife — may accept CPDLC but prefers VHF.

Overflight permits: required for GOOO, SBAO and SBRE (not for GCCC/GVAC). Permit numbers in item 18 RMK/ of the FPL; include FIR crossing points in the route if possible.

Alternates — read the fine print:

    • SBFN Fernando de Noronha — not international, not H24: do not plan as alternate.
    • FHAW Ascension — emergency diverts only (no infrastructure for planned diverts).
    • FHSH St Helena — Tue–Thu 08–16, Fri 12–16, Sat 04–17; 48 h prior notice by e-mail to use as alternate.

    Weather avoidance

Any deviation requires an ATC clearance — request FIRST: CPDLC lateral-deviation downlink or voice "WEATHER DEVIATION REQUIRED" (priority) · "PAN PAN" if needed. The rules below apply ONLY while a clearance cannot be obtained (NAT Doc 007 §10.4.6).

5 NM 5 NM CLEARED TRACK — DIRECTION OF FLIGHT → CB LEFT of track ≥5 NM → DESCEND 300 ft ▼ RIGHT of track ≥5 NM → CLIMB 300 ft ▲ <5 NM: keep the ATC-assigned level
Without clearance (§10.4.6): deviate away from the OTS if possible · broadcast callsign, FL, position and intentions on the frequency in use and 121.5 (backup 123.45), lights ON, watch ACAS · <5 NM: keep assigned level · crossing ≈5 NM: LEFT descend 300 ft / RIGHT climb 300 ft (Table 13-1) · cleared to a distance and need more: apply the ±300 ft BEFORE exceeding it · returning: be at the assigned level within 5 NM of the centreline · keep trying to get the clearance. (V.2025-1.1)

    Inflight contingency procedure

    CLEARED TRACK ≥ 30° 5 NM ± 500 ft (1,000 ft above FL410) consider below FL290 💡 ALL LIGHTS ON 📻 BROADCAST 123.45 · GUARD 121.5 → DIVERT
